Your First Visit
On our first meeting, a full case history will be taken. This determines the type of physical examination which will follow. The history and examination will enable me to diagnose your problem and decide on a treatment plan.
As a qualified chiropractor, I spend many years learning in great detail how to analyse the specific movements of each vertebra, and all of the other joints of the body. We use this analysis, together with many other examination techniques such as orthopaedic and neurological tests. This enables us to build up a complete picture of your health. We can then apply the most appropriate and specific adjustments and treatments for your particular problem.
Treatment
The first treatment will be performed usually after the consultation unless there is a need for a referral, X-ray or imaging. The treatment usually includes manipulation or chiropractic adjustments. Particular attention will be directed towards the areas of the spine which show signs of dysfunction, or subluxation, i.e. vertebrae which have abnormal movement or positioning. We work with our hands, and a specialised bench, which helps us to position you ready for the treatment.
The treatment plan is tailored to each patient and a series of treatments will be performed for your particular problem. I will give you an approximate number for your recovery time and I will be reassessing your progress at each visit.
However, everyone gets better at their own rate, depending on many factors such as age, state of health, as well as the severity and duration of your problem.
After care
Your chiropractic treatments will help you to heal faster if you listen to and act upon all the advice your chiropractor gives you. I may suggest lifestyle changes, specific exercises and other techniques to increase the speed of recovery.
After the first treatment it is normal to sometimes feel sore. Ice packs can be used on the sore area for 10-15 minutes.
